CCS FILMS & DIscussion guides

The short films on the Creation Care Stories (CCS) website and their accompanying discussion guides are available for both personal and group use. The discussion guide contains a number of questions for each short film which can be used for both personal reflection and / or to guide small group discussions. Note that the questions are merely a guide so you are welcome to choose just 1-2 relevant ones for your event purposes, or create a few additional ones of your own.

Stay tuned for more short films and discussion questions in the future!

Faith of A Fisherman: Life by The Sea (Philippines)

This short film highlights the life of Felmar, a fisherman who lives by the sea and depends on it for his livelihood. He lives on an island often in the path of typhoons. Felmar is also a pastor who shepherds a congregation of mostly fisherfolk. How does his life at sea inform his role as a pastor? And how does his faith in God impact how he fishes? These intertwining roles remind us of the interconnectedness of “being” and “doing”. The matters that shape our minds and hearts, in turn, inform our actions.

Seeds of Shalom: Uyag Uyag Development Center (Philippines)

This short film highlights a vision of longing for shalom - of restoring wholeness to what was once broken.

We see how a parcel of land that was once depleted from nutrients is gradually restored to health and vitality. The careful selection of seeds and other biodynamic practices eventually results in rich soil, which enables diverse and abundant production. The surrounding community are inspired by these results. In time, they begin their own journeys of working with the land and with one another. Transformation of the land is linked to transformation of the people who depend on it. We are connected to the places we live.

Who Tends The Garden? Conversations in Creation Care (Singapore)

This short film features an exploration of Creator and creation relationships in Singapore.

As more people move into urban centers, how do human and non-human creation relate to one another? What is creation’s relationship with Creator God in the city? Listen to the conversation between a few Singaporeans as they reflect on living out their care for God’s creation in their respective spaces.

Build Slow: Renovating Community (Singapore)

This short film features a local church in Singapore and how their journey of renovating their building became an opportunity to “renovate” their community.

KPC’s renovation begins with a willingness to dialogue with one another. They consider what it means to renovate a space with both human and non-human creation in mind. They also wrestle through what caring for creation looks like as it is lived out together in community.

The renovation process is a reminder of how caring for creation is part of our Christian journey. It is like how Eugene Peterson describes discipleship as “a long obedience in the same direction”.
